Twenty five (25) ladies competed for the honour to be crowned Miss Jamaica Universe 2008 at the Coronation show which was held at the National Indoor Sports Arena on April 12th. Considering the privileged opportunity to represent Jamaica at the Miss Universe beauty pageant in Vietnam later this year, all the beauties went all out for the coveted title.

However, despite the audiences’ individual favourites, only one beauty could have been crowned from outgoing Miss Jamaica Universe 2007, Zahra Redwood. That beauty was 18 year old April Jackson who wore the sash, Miss Swift Cash. She finished immediately ahead of 22 -year-old Miss Cherry Bomb Creative Labs, Doneika Plowright , and 21-year-old Rebecca Silvera, Miss Digicel Tropical Plaza who finished second and third respectively. Francine Hall, Miss Jergens and Adrianna Bryan, Miss Minott Services Mobay rounded out the top 5.

The new queen, won for herself , $1 million cash courtesy of title sponsors World Wise Partners; a fully loaded BMW 120i courtesy of Stewart Motors; a trip to Vietnam to represent Jamaica in the 2008 Miss Universe pageant; guaranteed modeling contract with Pulse valued at one $150,000 over two years; lifetime gym membership at Gymkhana; Miss Universe wardrobe courtesy Uzuri, and Keandra Francis; accessories valued at $100,000 courtesy of Bling Bling; and active wear from Puma Jamaica collection among other prizes.

The runners up also left smiling as they received considerable awards for themselves. The second place winner received $100,000 cash; a modeling contract with Pulse valued at $100,000 over two years; one year membership at Gymkhana; and dinner for two at Strawberry Hill among other prizes. The third place winner was presented with $50,000 cash; one year membership at Gymkhana; a modeling contract with Pulse valued at $75,000 over two years; and a gift voucher from Go West valued at $25,000.

Performances for the night came from the boy group A2O, who delivered an entertaining presentation. The group performed two songs including their current video hit, Take You There. Nonetheless, perhaps, the biggest and most anticipated performance for the night came from rhythm and blues singer Keyshia Cole who delivered the hits that her fans came to hear. Songs included, the melodious, I Changed My Mind, I Remember, Shoulda Let You Go, Love, Just like You, and Last Night. 

Pulse was responsible for the production of the show while title sponsorship was received from World Wise Partners, in relationship with Stewart Motors, Fame FM, Zip FM, Irie FM, Heffes Sales, Gymkhana, Uzuri, Hype TV, Bling Bling, Grizzly’s and Splash. CVM TV, and the Hilton Kingston Hotel, also sponsored the event.
