In a spectacular show of athletic talents, the Jamaican youths have continued to dominate the 37th CARIFTA Games. This year’s event was held in St. Kitts and Nevis at the Bird Rock Athletics Stadium and the Jamaican team made no apologies for breaking records and embarrassing other Caribbean athletes.

The Jamaicans ended the meet with 69 medals 29 gold, 25 silver and 15 bronze behind them was Trinidad and Tobago with 30 medals while the Bahamas was third with 23 medals. 
The Jamaicans showed that they are in fact the sprint factory of the Caribbean as they dashed towards the finish line without hesitation in all the sprint events.

Kerion Stewart was a star performer at the meet as he not only won the 110m hurdles but he destroyed his own record to a new 13.50 seconds a hundredth of a second of his former world junior record. Stewart dominated the field from start to finish as he moved smoothly over the hurdles with power and strength his teammate Warren Weir was second in 14.13 seconds.

In the 200m for Boys the Jamaicans were again one- two with Nickel Ashmeade running 20.16 seconds in front of teammate Ramone McKenzie, Kendall Bacchus of Trinidad and Tobago was third.  Samantha Elliot finished second in the 100m hurdles with 14.17 seconds behind Barbados’ Kenrisha Brathwaite who finished at 14.04 seconds.

Jamaican Jura Levy ran a personal best of 23.28 seconds to finish third in the under 20 200 metres while Earl Lee was third in the Boys Under 17 200m with 21.89 seconds.  In the distance races the Jamaica athletes did just as well with Notoya Goule winning the Under 20 800m in a personal best of 2:05:90 and Theon O’Conner finishing second in the Under 20 boys 800m with 1:52:49 behind Trinidad and Tobago’s Gavyn Nero.

The Jamaican team showed that they were versatile as both Under 17 Boys and Girls teams were successful in gaining medals. The Boys team beat The Bahamas 12-3 for the bronze while the Girls lost 2-16 to Trinidad and Tobago gaining them the silver medal.

The Jamaicans took charge of the event on the final day as they dominated the relays. The Under 17 Girls 4X400 team of Shericka Jackson, Danielle Dowie , Petra Fany and Sandrae Farquharson finished in 3:19:26 ahead of St. Kitts and Nevis 3:19:26.

The Under 17 Boys won their event in 3:19:26 with a team of Roland Reid, A-Shawni Mitchell Javere Bell and Nolan Williams. Who won the event in 3:19:26. The under 20 Girls quartet of Kayo Robinson, Shana-Gaye Tracey, Nikita Tracey and Alicia Catena won in 3:39:26 ahead of Trinidad and Tobago 3:43:63.

In the 4X100 m relays the Jamaicans also shined as the Under 20 Boys ran a splendid sub 40 seconds. The CARIFTA games is an annual event held in the Caribbean showing the athletic talents of the Caribbean youths.
