Jamaican Supermodel Nadine Willis who has broken down barriers to reach the apogee of her modelling career now tries her hands at music as she promotes her debut single, ‘So what’.  She says “I’m pushing ‘So What!’ right now, that’s my baby and I gotta get it out there”. Also, “the objective of the song is to tell people that material wealth isn’t all.”

As she tells us what inspired the song’s content, she places herself into the story of its message.  She explains that “I wanted the fast life, quick money so that’s how I got involved with [exotic] dancing… a lot of young girls and guys in the ghetto go astray because dem want to live big. You have to take time and build yourself.”

Nadine’s ventures into music came about last year when she recorded a song for former Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller. The recording boosted her poise, and gave her the bravery to present the idea of doing music to Pulse C.E.O., Kingsley Cooper. Since then, the song has been attracting some airplay and “the response to the song has been encouraging”.

However, she says that not everyone is optimistic about her musical venture as “People a seh me naah go mek it in the music industry. I’ll work hard, night and day just to prove them wrong.” At the same time, she confidently says “I.m a person who loves to start new things. I enjoy my job as model and as a musician. I believe that both will work.”

She admits that recording music has been a challenge though as “sometimes I leave the studio like two and three ‘o’ clock a mornin’..."it drains me. This artiste thing is 24/7 so when I’m not in studio, I’m at Asylum or The Quad promoting my single, making sure the deejay dem play it.”

She doesn’t plan to be a one hit wonder though, as plans are in place to record a number of other tracks. “Most of my songs will be reality tunes. I want to work on conscious music. I want to be known for quality music.”

Willis recently performed her debut single at The Miss Universe Road Shows on Saturday February 23 and on Sunday the 24th at the Portmore Pines Plaza and Pulse complex, respectively.
