Kingston, Jamaica: Singer Jah Cure’s release from prison certainly ranked among the top three items on the wish list of any reggae/dancehall afficionado, and with the granting of that wish, all will agree that it’s party time.
Curefest, as the official three-day celebration has been dubbed, had its official launch on Tuesday, September 18 at the Cable & Wireless National Golf Academy in New Kingston. A glitzy event, it was Jah Cure’s first official presentation since the press conference held the day of his release from prison and it attracted a slew of media and entertainment personalities who not only wanted information on Curefest, but were also longing for a real opportunity to get up close with the singer.
From all indications, Curefest is already a sell off event. If the launch is any indication of what the actual show will be like, then it’s possible that media presence alone may very well fill up the backstage area. Video cameras were out in full force, as the hosts of various entertainment programmes jostled to get their personal interview with Jah Cure, cameramen clicked the night away and print journalists recorded the happenings.
Jah Cure’s arrival created a media frenzy as all tried to capture the diminutive crooner with the larger than life voice. Dressed in all white- which seems to be his signature look, the young Ras easily worked his way through the maze of fans, friends and flashbulbs, demonstrating an ease and accessibility not common in artistes at this level of their career
As the dancehall artistes love to say, We deh yah fi represent and represent they did with the likes of Beenie Man, George Nooks, Fantan Mojah, Ce’Cile, Lutan Fyah, Captain Barkey and WIckerman, Prodigal Son, Christopher Martin, Duane Stephenson and even the veteran Black Starliner singer Fred Locks.
Curefest is slated to take place over three days, starting on Friday October 12, with an all-white, all-inclusive party called Reflections at the Starfish Trelawny Hotel; 45 Cures- a spin-off between sound system selectors and radio disc jocks, follows at Pier One in Montego Bay on Saturday October 13. The main event, appropriately titled, Longing For closes the weekend of entertainment at the Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium on Sunday October 14.
A nothing short of impressive line-up is scheduled for Longing For - a virtual who’s-who of the Jamaican reggae/dancehall fraternity. Morgan Heritage, Beres Hammond, Barrington Levy, Beenie Man, Bounty Killa, Capleton, Junior Reid, Lady Saw, Tarrus Riley, George Nooks, Cocoa Tea, Richie Stephens, Queen Ifrica, Jah Mason, Wayne Marshall, I-Wayne, Jigsy King, Jah Mason, Ce`Cile, Chezidek,Chrisinti andChuck Fenda are among those listed.
A talking point of the evening was the J$10,000/US$150 price tag for the triple VIP tickets to the event. This comes with premium bar, gloved service meal and
backstage access.
Among the members of the entertainment family who were there to partake of the vibes and pass on their blessings were Isaiah Laing of Supreme Promotions; President of the Jamaica Federation of musicians Desi Young, producer Mikey Bennett; artiste manager George Golding; psychologist Dr Leahcim Semaj- who was the evening’s guest speaker; radio personality Denise Issis’ Miller; entertainment guru Dennis Howard.Jerry D; Donovan Dacres; Yolande Rattray-Wright; Odessa Chambers; Vibes Iahtas; Allison Hunt of Jah Cure’s publicity team; and Jaqui Tyson who crew created a cozy ambience for the evening’s proceedings. Curefest is being staged by Danger Zone Productions, Iyah Cure and Brass Gate Promotions.who have teamed up to ensure that this event will be spoken about well into the year end, in terms of the line-up, production and overall entertainment value.
I would be nice to see Jah Cure apologize to the victims of his crimes. This would truly make fans like me embrace him more.
Hello
Hugh, you are right. It’s hard to see that this guys talent is so overwhelming that so many are quick to forgive and move on.
Although, it could very well be that if you conducted a poll, maybe the majority of his fans will tell you they don’t believe the other side of the story.
