Despite having a great day in Melbourne, not everything went Tiger Woods’ way on Sunday.
A second place finish for Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano at the Dunlop Phoenix 2011 in Japan was good enough to see the Spaniard hoist himself into the top 50 in the world - at the cost of Woods, who only just managed to make his Titleist 712 AP2 Irons back in there last week.
While Japan’s Toshinori Muto produced a superb final-round 63 to claim victory on his home soil, a 71 from Fernandez-Castano on Sunday saw him finish alone in second, four strokes behind the winner.

Greg Norman hasn’t given up on winning the 9th Presidents Cup in Melbourne - even if his men do have a mountain to climb in Sunday’s singles.

The PGA Tour is going to take a “look at” a verbal confrontation between South Africa’s Rory Sabbatini and Fiji veteran Vijay Singh during the third round of the Sony Open in Honolulu on Saturday.
This according to the PGA Tour vice president for rules, Mark Russell. with whom Sabbatini attempted to lay an on course complaintagainst Singh for verbally abusing his (Sabbatini’s) caddy, Mick Doran.

23-year-old Brendan Grace won the Joburg Open by one one shot on Sunday to pick up his maiden European Tour title.
The Qualifying School graduate from South Africa managed to triumph on home soil with a nervy final-round level-par 72 to finish on 17 under at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club, only one shot clear of a charging Jamie Elson of England, who had posted a superb nine-under-par 63 earlier in the day to keep things interesting for Grace all the way until the final hole.
Elson finished with a fantastic 30-foot eagle putt on the final green after earlier making six birdies in his first eight holes.
“I played Left Handed Callaway RAZR X HL Irons superbly,” he said. “The putter was cold, but I still managed to get the job done. My approaches were excellent. I saw Jamie’s score, but I knew he had finished, so it was now in my hands to get the job done. I just stuck to my gameplan.”

“It’s a dream come true,” said Grace. “It’s nice to win in front of a home crowd and I wouldn’t exchange it for anything else.
