David Toms has gone from a disappointing playoff loss to matching the PGA Tour scoring record for the first 36 holes of a tournament.

at Colonial on Friday to open a seven-stroke lead.
Coming off a playoff loss Sunday to K.J. Choi in The Players Championship, the 44-year-old Toms tied the mark of 124 set by Pat Perez in the 2009 Bob Hope Classic. Perez had rounds of 61 and 63.
Already off to another impressive start before a 2 1/2 -hour weather delay in the middle of his second round, Toms took full advantage after heavy rain softened the Colonial course and the wind stopped. On the eight holes he completed when play Callaway X Series JAWS Chrome Wedge
, he had four birdies and came up just short of two more.
“I came out and the conditions were perfect for scoring, and my mindset was to just keep making birdies, try to separate myself a little bit,” Toms said. “I just went out and played great the last eight holes or so, some of the best golf I’ve played in a long time.”
Toms also was the 36-hole leader last week at TPC Sawgrass, where he needed a birdie on the final hole of regulation to get into a playoff. But he then missed a short par putt on the first extra hole.
Toms started at Hogan’s Alley with his best score in 429 rounds—since a career-best 61 at the Sony Open in Hawaii in January 2006, in the last of his 12 PGA Tour victories. He matched that Friday and got halfway to his goal of finally winning again.
“I just still need to put those four rounds together and somehow get over the hump again,” he said.
For the second day in a row, Toms carded 31s on both nines.

Toms had just teed off at the par-5 11th hole after saving par at No. 10 with a two-putt from 65 feet.

David Toms shot a bogey-free 8-under 62 to share the first-round lead at the Colonial with Chez Reavie on Thursday, quickly rebounding four days after losing a playoff at The Players Championship.
“It was one of those days where the hole just looked big,” Toms said. “This round certainly helps me get past what happened last week at the end. I needed to get off to a good start.”

Toms missed a short par putt at the famed No. 17 island hole in the playoff that would have extended play.

The 62s by Toms and Reavie matched the lowest 18-hole scores on the PGA Tour this season, and were the best for an opening round.

, missing a chance to tie the tournament record after his approach on his final hole, the 407-yard No. 9, hit the green and spun back into the water. He closed with a double-bogey 6 in a round that included an eagle, eight birdies and a three-putt bogey from 6 1/2 feet at the par-3 16th.
Fowler made a 20-foot eagle putt on the par-5 first hole and was 8 under over an eight-hole stretch before hitting his tee shot at his final hole left of a bunker into the rough before his penalized approach. And he still had a 29 on the front side.

Welsh golfer Becky Morgan shot a bogey-free round of seven under par 65 by Titleist Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can Wedge
to take a one stroke lead in the first round of the UniCredit Ladies German Open presented by Audi near Munich.
She opened with seven birdies in baking weather at Golfpark Gut, on a dry course permitting fairly low scores.

“There are quite a few birdie chances out here. The par-fives are reachable and you have some short irons into some of the par fours.
“It was very score-able. I hit a lot of fairways and only missed two greens and finally made some putts which I haven’t been doing the last couple of weeks, so it was nice.”
Morgan was runner-up at the 2001 French Open in her rookie year on the Ladies European Tour and also tied for second at the 2004 Chick-fil-A Charity Championship on the American LPGA circuit.

Without Tiger, Players Championship Ends with Exciting Finis

Even without Tiger Woods, I still enjoyed watching the drama of The Players Championship this weekend as South Korean golf pro K.J. Choi clinched one of the biggest wins in pro golf.
The battle between Choi and second-place finisher David Toms lasted right until the end, keeping fans like me on the edge of our seats. On Sunday May 15, after regulation play ended, Toms missed a par putt that seemed easily make-able on the playoff hole, and that was the whole ballgame. Choi knocked in his putt and became the champion.
The playoff hole, the 17th at Sawgrass, is a legendary hole, pictured in golf posters, where the green is literally an island in the middle of a lake. It’s one of my favorites and someday I hope to play it with Odyssey White Ice Mini T Putter
. The funny part is Toms got the hard part done, reaching the green in one, then hitting his long putt close enough to sink for par. I think the pressure got to him, he kind of miss-hit the short putt and it missed.
Woods apparently injured his leg originally during the Masters and then aggravated the injury on the very first shot of the first round of the TPC on May 12. Tiger was walking funny and also shooting a horrible 42 when he withdrew from the event after his first nine holes by Odyssey White Ice Mini T Putter

It does look like Tiger will play Odyssey White Ice Mini T Putter
in the upcoming U.S. Open starting June 16, but will miss the Memorial Tournament June 2, which he has won four times. Tiger himself broke the news of his hopeful Open appearance on May 17, tweeting “I want, and expect, to be at the US Open. Will do all I can to get there.”

Bradley Smoker

I’ve got a Bradley and the only thing I don’t like about it is the “ hockey puck “ type of chips. You have to babysit it to make sure the pucks are going onto the heater arm. All of them won’t get used unless you manually open the door and advance them yourself.
I’d get me a Weber charcoal grill with wood chips to smoke. I use mine alot more than my Bradley and it’s alot cheaper.

I like the idea of this smoker. I cannot determine if it uses chips logs or those disks like the Bradley Smokers? I do not have a “smoker” and after looking around think that this one looks like a great bargin if it works. I think that I may ask about this return policy. I also might wait a little while, since this is a seasonal item the display model might be offered for cheaper. That would be even nicer since it is not a necessity

Dual Battery Setup?

The downside with a single battery setup and auxiliary loads when the car isn’t running is that the voltage drops as capacity is used. A starting battery is designed to provide a lot of amps quickly - when it provides a small amount of amps over a longer period of time, the voltage drops more than with a deep
cycle. If you’re providing a lot of amps over an 8ga wire, the voltage will drop quicker. And thus, you run the risk of not being able to start the car.
One solution is to use a controller that monitors the battery voltage and cuts off the auxiliary load before the main battery drains beyond starting voltage. Koolatron offers a “battery saver” that does just this. See their FAQ for more info on power and their products. This is not a high-draw solution though - it appears to be designed for a 5a load. Another solution is to carry jumper cables or an auxiliary battery booster just in case.
What I’d like to do is install a second battery (deep cycle) and use a charging relay, which will keep both batteries isolated, even when charging. I’d use this battery for a fridge and/or an inverter to power AC items like a laptop. Many people also use the auxiliary battery for a winch connection. There are some great sealed AGM batteries (Energy 1 by Northstar is one example I’m familiar with from boating) that could potentially be intalled on their side in the main cabin. But my preference would be to use a deep cycle Optima in the engine compartment to keep the charging wire as short as possible.
