Here are my thoughts on what IM’s ( Instant Messengers ) still haven’t achived after years of evolution:
An auto response system. Eg: When someone greets you, and you are away ( more often than not ); a customisable per friend / group auto with responses from you stating how to reach you by phone, email, etc…
An in place area to preview received mail and sorting system. Eg: I get an email on my GTalk messenger; I see a preview like in Digsby and then is assign the email a tag: important, urgent, etc…
Group video chat
Faster file sharing and ability to email attachments from IM window and then later compose an email with the attachments.
Remote assistance
Messaging to Blackberry Messenger
