The origination of reggae/dancehall music comes from the fusion of Ska and Rock Steady music. The ingredients of that collaboration is; Jamaican Mento and American R&B rhythms. Reggae/dancehall music lyrics usually deal with poverty, politics, and Rastafarianism.
Reggae was traditionally called “roots reggae” and its unique quality is its spiritual emphasis. Reggae, rock, dub, dancehall is a movement that is slowly but surely getting its worldwide recognition greatly deserved. NATASJA SAAD is one of the top reggae/dancehall artist, who have creatively given this form of music its proper interpretation and respect.

Natasja was the first non-Jamaican reggae/dancehall artist to win the “Irie FM Big Break Contest” in 2006, along with many live performances in Jamaica and at Sumfest 06 and Sting 06. Half Danish and half Sudanese born in Copenhagen in 1974, Natasja started her career at age 13 singing/ “dee-jaying” in Copenhagen.
Her big break came after opening at a concert for Macka B, Arriwa Posse and Mad Professor. Soon she later traveled to Belgium where she showcased her talents for a massive crowd at Geel Reggae Festival. Natasja proved her genius and worth to the music world when in the early nineties she helped introduce raggamuffin to the Danish hip hop community.
Natasja in the trio “No Name Requested”, had their own style, Natasja with her fast and captivating “reggae-rap” helped the trio gain respect and recognition. Natasja has had many popular chart climbing singles such as “Cover Me”, “SummerCute”, “Cigar”, “Time 2 Fly” along with her long awaited debut album “Release” and her latest ever popular singles “45 Questions” and “Calabria” 2007. Miss Saad has proven to be a powerful force within the Danish and Jamaican reggae/dancehall music scene.
Natasja was killed in a car accident on the 24th June 2007 she was 32 years old. They say the gifted always die young, Natasja Saad definitely proved this statement to be true. Fortunately she was able to bless all of us with her revolutionary and poetic spirit that in her music will continue on in our hearts forever.
